GROUP LESSONS

Learning to play the piano can be a lonely and frustrating activity, especially for the young. In a supportive environment, group lessons are a great way to help children learn with their peers, become part of the music community, and have a fun and joyful learning experience! This helps set the stage for subsequent formal, individual, one-on-one, private lessons on the piano or another instrument in the future!

DEVELOPING AN UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC

IIntroductory group lessons start the development of your child’s musical talent by exposing them to music, just like when they learned to talk! When you learn a language, whether it be your first, second, third, or tenth, you do a lot of listening and trying to speak one word at first, then a phrase or sentence, until you are conversational.  We develop our musical skills similarly--by listening, singing, and playing over time, starting with individual notes!

LEARNING WHAT MATTERS MOST FOR EACH STUDENT

Group lessons encourage students to develop:

  • Active listening, singing, and playing

  • An engaged “musical ear”

  • A good foundation for future musical efforts

  • A creative and open mind

    • Playing

    • Music composition

    • Improvisation

  • And much, much more!

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE NOTES AND EACH OTHER

Introductory group lessons joyfully introduce your child to music in a friendly environment with other children. At Alegre Latido Music School, the tonal scales are taught—singing solfege, in addition to rhythm—through songs, poems, nursery rhythms, and how to read music—recognizing notes on sheet music and understanding their interrelationship with the repertoire book’s songs—all while making new friends along the way!
